The visit of H. M. Myers, W. B. Gilbert and R. H. Forbes to El Encantado Cave, southeast of Caracas, 1867

A group of young men from Williams College in Massachusetts traveled through Venezuela in 1867. They arrived at the port of La Guaira, crossed the Llanos and reached the Amazon River. During their stay in the Caracas area, they visited the El Encantado Cave, that previously was visited by Agustín Codazzi in 1835. Their description is the most complete published in the 19th century for a cave in the capital region. This work had not previously been mentioned in the Venezuelan speleological literature.
