Abstract

Motorcycles as a mode of transportation are experiencing considerable growth in their use on urban roads. Given the chaotic handling they are receiving, mobility conditions in Venezuela will require strategic monitoring by road and traffic specialists to determine the variation in current supply in terms of modal split, including this innovative mode of transportation. This requires a technical regulatory analysis that is beneficial for the coexistence of different vehicles, in order to define public policies regarding circulation and vehicular traffic management. In this context, the motorcycle factor establishes the informal consequences of traffic, drastically affecting the speed and space of streets, avenues, and highways.

This current reality, with no statistical indicators for traffic operations, is mandatory to analyze the significance of a road safety audit (RSA), which previously did not involve this mode of transportation with any interest. Road safety audits (RSAs) are used to identify and correct project deficiencies and thus prevent accidents from occurring. They are also used to investigate and evaluate events in so-called black spots.

Black spots are areas with a high concentration of road accidents. These areas will be studied using road safety criteria to propose effective traffic engineering measures that will reduce accidents in the conflict zone to zero.
